PostSubject: Rules Chat   Rules Chat I_icon_minitimeThu May 13, 2010 2:02 am

This rule is in itself a complete failure and is very dumb because for one, it is of course, not well enforced, two, it has not been effective at all because people can easily tell other people secrets outside of the FFL chats, an example being BYOND's own pager; the rule has no pros whatsoever because the smiths and other 'hidden' NPCs are placed so randomly in the world that it is nearly impossible to find them on your own and they have very dumb placement because there is no thought process going on in searching for them other than looking into every wall in every area unless you stumble upon it or just happen to stumble upon it by chance. I also believe that finding crystal weapon smiths is absurd because they are for the most part useless and it is a 3-part scavenger hunt of the type that I explained previously, it is absurd to have to spend so much time hunting randomly for horribly obscure hidden passages that for the most part, lead not to the smith. Only one, maybe two, smiths are actually in plain sight within the room they were placed in which is of course, scattered somewhere in the middle of a dungeon, all the other ones are not hard to get to, don't require any thought process, and only require luck to find. I remain firm on both of my points and hope this issue is solved soon.

----I will re-read and check this tomorrow, please leave your comments and opinions on either one of my topics in this thread, keep in mind that I'll reread it tomorrow, keep in mind I'm still young and not too well into my argument and I typed this late at night (tired eyes) so please, no criticism of my grammar skills or anything like that.
----Maybe my opinion will change as I am swayed by the opinions of others, maybe I was under too much stress or anger when I wrote this so keep in mind that it will sound bias, nonetheless, I would like to hear you people out, especially the GMs on how you feel about this matter, do you feel the rule should be better enforced or if it should be removed or if you believe it should stay the same or be changed in a different way. I want to hear the input you people have on this and I want to see if this topic has any impact on the rule, your opinion can make a difference!

I've been unmuted so now this topic revolves around the whole rule itself.

Also, this rule hasn't been around for too long (less than a year to my experience), if I remember correctly. Back then, there weren't any problems with the secrets, I didn't see any real need for this rule in my opinion, now people have a much harder time getting around and most people just say the secrets in whisper as I said before.

----Correct me if I'm wrong about this please.
----Also, don't flame this topic because it is only made for people to express their opinions about the controversy behind this rule.

Authentic opinion:

Yes, the rule is silly. I don't think it's necessary, I don't think that there should be secrets at all; most people give up looking for them entirely, they don't spend time looking more for them just because nobody tells them where they are.

But that doesn't mean the rule will change or anything.

Smith locations and secrets overlap each other. To get rid of the one you're talking about would conflict with the other. So it would still be enforced. Explaining where things are in wsay kills the game for new players who want to experience the game to the fullest, to actually have fun. If you're going to sit there and spam the wsay for 6 hours, like you did, and ask where everything is instead of going out and looking, then that's your problem for being mute. Each rule is up there for a reason. Whether you like it or not, when you sign in every day, you agree to follow those rules. Every time you disagree and decide to break one, you risk yourself for a muting. Really, this thread is pointless. To simplify your post you're pissed that you were mute after being asked to stop asking for secrets in wsay, and now you feel like it was an "unjust" mute. So now you want the rule abolished. Well, I'm sorry but even -if- the whole, "don't tell Smith locations" was abolished, there's still the "don't tell secrets" rule that will always be in effect.

I did not spam Wsay for one, and second, the topic is no longer about my mute, it is now about the rule itself so don't flame it. Hunting for items scattered throughout the world without any stories behind them doesn't improve the game experience, it is too random and NPCs to my knowledge, don't even mention any smiths other than Kokkul. I believe that the equips should be earned through hard work and not by pure luck, don't you think it's hard work enough to get to a high level and hunt for the tails? The smiths have no incorporation into the story whatsoever and one thing is hard work through questing to get an item and another is just pure random scavenger hunting. Sure, to some extent I can agree on the final boss being hidden since he is somewhat incorporated into the story and it is necessary to find him to get your ++ so it's rewarding enough and it isn't as hard to find as the others. It would've been a thing, but how horribly it was executed shows there was no thought process behind the placement of the smiths other than making them an annoying and frustrating side-quest with no hints, pattern, nor anything of the sort at all.

Your crying about the crystal weaponry, and these rules, is pretty pointless, for a few reasons.

1: This is true, for almost all cases, and it's the general consensus from almost anyone who's gotten hold of one: they suck. They were the best, once upon a time LONG AGO, when the Moon was inaccessible and incomplete, and the Underworld was barely there. Certain classes (Engineer, for one) had very little choice for late game weaponry, it helped even the odds.

2: Spamming wsay for 6 hours, I honestly believe this story because you're that kinda guy. The rules don't apply to cool guys because you think you're toeing the line, right? However, even if you didn't, you still asked numerous people to break a rule for you because you can't get off your butt and look around.

3: These rules have been around for over a year, at the least. I would probably reckon it to be about two. Yes, they're not easy to enforce, because friends tell other friends about it off of the game. We can't control that. However, they ARE here. If we catch wind of it, doesn't matter how we know, if we know for a real fact, then punishment may be given at our discretion.

4: I myself placed just about every crystal smith in this game, and the Adamant smiths too (sans helmet). One of them were moved due to them being a bit easy to find, one was moved to a better location than where it used to be.
Yes, that makes it very easy for me to say that they're easy to find, however, it's the truth. All of them reside in places that the ORIGINAL GAME had as areas. (Two are either visible by a thread or not at all, but again, they all suck as weapons, and only should be collected for a medal, or to say you did it.)
Your excuse they they are too hard to find is your own inability to look at a god damn map. If it's A SECRET, LOOK IN A SECRET ROOM. Am I the only one who gets this?

5: You complain because they don't get mentioned by NPCs that nobody speaks to? Granted, that is a problem that I hope eventually gets fixed, but it's also easily fixable by spreading rumors of crystal based weaponry in NPCs. The point is completely moot at every junction.

In summary, and in short, this is not rocket science, and you should have just LOOKED AROUND YOURSELF. Also, if ya ever get unbanned, please don't try to manipulate the rules and make yourself look cute, it always ends this way.

Don't matter Andrew, old soldiers never die, they just fade away. Mark my words that I will finish my conquest on getting every class to lvl 99.
You might not know it, but as long as this game is up long enough and I don't stop caring, I will succeed, whether you know it's me or not.

Today I am the happiest man in the world even though I got banned from FFL around two days ago! I feel I've already gotten over the whole FFL thing and am starting a new step in my life. Of course, it doesn't change what type of person I am nor my attitude but I just felt it was good to let everyone know. Sure, I will check around to see if there's a way for me to sneak back in once in a while *hehehehe* but I'm good =)...
Also Abba, maybe with proxies I can still check up on forums from time to time to see if there's any news on the server, but as time passes by FFL will just turn from an obsession to merely an old memory that I can remember and stack up to many others I have of the old days of how I'd spend my time before I knew FFL.
P.S. Outside of BYOND, the name 'Moonlite' does not exist, and if it does, it does not pertain to me.

I seem to have overlooked this thread, but due to the recent events, I'm quickly going to add my opinion.

- The rule is stupid.
- Don't reveal things on wsay that one might want to figure out by themselves, feel free to talk about it in private.

(Note that in practice, all staff follows the above two points. I don't even know how you got yourself muted for that, just ask someone in private and noone will care.)

Well then I think there should be rules for w-say. Rules like, "no discussing game improvements", "no arguing about game features"... rules that everyone should abide by, including the mods.

Although, I get the impression that chatboxes themselves won't be rule-free for long. If they become used more, then they too will become moderated. It seems like a down-hill slide for free speech on FFL.

The only person who will ever moderate a chatbox, is the creator of the chatbox him-/herself. Game staff will never have moderation powers in chatboxes that are not created by them. Chatboxes aren't even logged. Literally ANYTHING goes, in a chatbox. But be warned: If a staff member of the game enters your chatbox and they catch you spreading "illegal information" - for example, game secrets - they may act as they see fit.

What is the significance of the game secrets rule when clan members freely disclose such secrets between themselves?

What we can't see, doesn't matter to us, but we try to limit spoiling of secrets where we can see it.
